Police in Canada have issued a warning due to an increase in robberies of large crypto investors, The Block writes, citing a law enforcement release.
"The suspects apparently know that the victims are heavily invested in cryptocurrency, know where they live, and rob them in their own homes," Sgt. Jill Long noted in a joint release from Delta Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
In one case, the offender was arrested and recommended to be charged. Police clarified that the perpetrators always break into victims' homes posing as couriers or authorities. They then seize important data that gives them access to the victims' cryptocurrency accounts.
In early July, two 17-year-old boys were detained in Canada on charges of stealing cryptocurrency in BTC and ETH for $4.2 million. The police specified that the attackers used the method of spear phishing (hidden phishing) to commit the thefts. It involves manipulating the victim in order to force the disclosure of personal account details
