FT: Binance has frozen more than a hundred cryptocurrency wallets at the request of Israeli authorities

Leading cryptocurrency exchange seeks all customers linked to Hamas-linked addresses

More than a hundred accounts linked to Hamas have been frozen at the request of Israeli law enforcement authorities on the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange Binance, writes the Financial Times. Israel, together with cryptocurrency companies, is trying to block the flow of funds to Hamas and limit the funding of Palestinian militants.

Israeli authorities have also requested information about another 200 cryptocurrency accounts, most of which are on Binance, the publication reported, citing people familiar with the situation.

Last week, Israeli police said they had worked with Binance to freeze cryptocurrency accounts belonging to Hamas. The addresses of the donation wallets had been published by the group on social media since the first day the conflict escalated.

The article also quoted an unnamed Binance employee as saying that the cryptocurrency exchange had to "go back and look for all the Binance customers who were involved" with each address published by Hamas asking for donations.

Stablecoin issuer Tether said on Oct. 16 that it had frozen 32 cryptocurrency wallets with assets totaling more than $873,000 that were linked to illegal activity in Israel and Ukraine.
